HIS WORD— THE APPLE OF YOUR EYE
His Word— The Apple of Your Eye
My son, keep my words and store up my commands within you. Keep my commands and you will live; guard my teachings as the apple of your eye. Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart. Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and to insight, “You are my relative.” —Proverbs 7:1-4
Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. —Proverbs 8:32-35
Brothers and sisters, stop thinking like children. In regard to evil be infants, but in your thinking be adults. —I Corinthians 14:20
Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. —Hebrews 5:13-14
The “apple of your eye” is the very center of your eye and is used figuratively to describe something or someone very precious and the center of your attention. This is what God’s Word should be to us— very precious and the center of our lives, the very foundation of our lives. What is more important than what God has to say to us? Anytime we read or listen to His Word we should ask Him to help us understand what He is saying to us and how He wants us to apply what He is saying to life. Hearing His Word, plus application to life of His Word, plus experience equals wisdom over time.
Think of this today— if Jesus was physically with you during any part of your day today, would you listen to what He has to say in any given situation you will be in or would you ignore Him? Well, Jesus is with you always and we should be always ready to ask Him about any situation or circumstance we find ourselves in. This is why it is so important to have His Word in our head that He could speak to us through His Spirit anywhere we are. This is most helpful in times of temptation! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcE1di1Wtl0
Listen to our Lord daily and do not disregard what He has to say. Those who are obedient to Him will know and understand His favor in all circumstances and situations. As we mature in our Lord Jesus we will not think like children. We will think about what our Lord has to say like adults “who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
“The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed. The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears; I have not been rebellious, I have not turned away.” —Isaiah 50:4-5
Oh Father, please help me to listen to what You have to say and keep Your Word as the apple of my eye. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus, my Lord. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkunT7BYCqw
