“This is what Cyrus king of Persia says: “ ‘The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Any of his people among you may go up, and may the Lord their God be with them.’ ” —II Chronicles 36:23
In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah, the LORD moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to make a proclamation throughout his realm and also to put it in writing. —Ezra 1:1
This is what the Lord says… Who says of Cyrus, ‘He is my shepherd and will accomplish all that I please; he will say of Jerusalem, “Let it be rebuilt,” and of the temple, “Let its foundations be laid.”‘ —Isaiah 44:28
Our Lord God Almighty is in full control. Yes, He is sovereign over all. “In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water that he channels toward all who please him” (Proverbs 21:1). He sets the boundaries where we will live and the times in which we will live. It is no accident we live where we live geographically or that we live at this time in history. Our Lord God Almighty guides it all. What a comfort and encouragement this is. He has us where He wants us and “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). Yes, God is over your life. Let us yield to His will.
In the above verses God was working through Cyrus king of Persia to accomplish His will. He is doing so today in the nations of the world. The world’s national leaders, whether knowingly or unknowingly, are moving God’s plans and purposes forward. God’s will is being done on this planet. Let us take heart, brother and sister, that we understand part of His plans and purposes on this planet in our lives. Let us be faithful in the part He has for us—- “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). He “gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good” (Titus 2:14). So let us be zealously serving according to His purposes! Zealously and not just some half-hearted getting by type of service! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8Sx_U0Ztr8
Dear Father, please help me to serve according to Your plans and purposes. Yes, please help me to yield to Your will for my life. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus my Lord. So be it!
