LOVE GOD

LOVE GOD

So be very careful to love the Lord your God. —Joshua 23:11

Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” —John 14:21

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. —I John 2:3-5

“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.” —Luke 6:45-49

How many people say, “I love God” and yet do not do what He says? We don’t obey out of drudgery, but because of love. If I truly love God then my greatest desire is to be and do what He desires. Otherwise I am just saying words and going through religious motions.

Both the wise and foolish builders hear the Word of God, but the wise man 1-comes to Jesus 2- Hears the words of Jesus and 3- Puts the words of Jesus into practice. He has a strong foundation to face whatever life may bring his way and is headed to Heaven. Not so the foolish builder. He also hears the words of Jesus, but he does not 1- come to Jesus or 2- put Jesus’ words into practice. He is not ready for what life brings his way and will eventually be destroyed— forever in Hell!

What a dangerous place to be when a person hears God’s Word but does not come to Jesus and obey His Word. A person can say they love God all they want, but according to the above verses from I John they are lying if they are not being obedient to what He says. Anyone can say they love God, but their attitude and actions will bear out if they truly do love Him.

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”—Matthew 22:36-40

Lord God Almighty, My Father, I truly love You and I know those words are easy to say, but may my life bear this out. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZGzu6oI9b4
