Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. —Lamentations 3:21-23

Call this to your mind… and have hope! It is “because of the Lord’s great love that we are not consumed” and also that “his compassions never fail.” Not only that, but his love and compassions are new every morning and his faithfulness is great! May we truly call this to mind and have hope!

More than likely you are not in the same context as when this was written. Jerusalem was under siege and people were starving. They were taking actions they would never have taken before except for the utterly desperate situation they were now in— women cooking and eating their children! (Lamentations 2:20; 4:10). No, you probably are not in those dire straits! Yet, even in such difficult circumstances this was when the above verses are written!

Hope… hope in the Lord! He is our only hope. He is my only hope. He is your only hope. Without Him we have no hope or a false hope.

“Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD” (Psalm 31:24).

“Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption” (Psalm 130:7).

“Israel, put your hope in the LORD both now and forevermore” (Psalm 131:3).

“But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

“We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Thessalonians 1:3).

Now, what situation do you find yourself in? Where are you putting your hope? In yourself? In a situation? In another person? Or, are you putting your hope in Jesus? That is where it needs to be. May it be so!

Dear Father, may I place my full hope in You and not myself, any circumstance or any other person. Thank You for the hope I have because of Jesus!
