FEAR, WORSHIP AND LISTEN
FEAR, WORSHIP AND LISTEN
“Now if you fear and worship the Lord and listen to his voice, and if you do not rebel against the Lord’s commands, then both you and your king will show that you recognize the Lord as your God. But if you rebel against the Lord’s commands and refuse to listen to him, then his hand will be as heavy upon you as it was upon your ancestors.” —I Samuel 12:14-15
“Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.” ― Edmund Burke
In the above passage the Israelites were to remember what happened to their ancestors when they rebelled “against the Lord’s commands and refused to listen to him.” Otherwise, history would repeat itself if they too rebelled “against the Lord’s commands and refused to listen to him, then his hand will be as heavy upon you as it was upon your ancestors.” Would they remember and learn from history? Sadly, this does not happen too often.
So it is with us today. People either don’t remember history, ignore history or don’t know history. Regardless of the reason, if a people learn not from history then they will eventually repeat it. No form of government can legislate godliness, but governments can encourage godliness by example and encouraging the freedom to worship. But, how often does that happen? Usually, unfortunately, governments have a tendency toward ungodliness and seek to squelch the worship of Christ followers. We are to pray for them (I Timothy 2:1-4).
What a joy “if you fear and worship the Lord and listen to his voice, and if you do not rebel against the Lord’s commands, then both you and your king will show that you recognize the Lord as your God.” There are snippets in history of windows when this happened. Wouldn’t it be a joy to see a window during our time? Regardless though, we are headed home to Heaven where perfection will reign! Now there is a promise we can surely rejoice about! Oh yes, let us rejoice! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIpnW3rtRQ4
Kind and compassionate Father, thank You for the life You have given me through Jesus. Oh, how fortunate am I! I am so glad, as someone has said, “That You know the future better than I remember the past.” I am so grateful for this. It is a tremendous joy to know that I can trust You fully regardless of what government is in power. You are the ultimate power and I am glad to be known by You. Thank you… I love and adore You…
