GREAT FORGIVENESS BRINGS GREAT CAPACITY TO LOVE!

“I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.” — Luke 7:47

Those who understand that they have been forgiven much will love much. But those who think they have been forgiven little will love little. As followers of the Lord Jesus Christ we need to understand that we have been forgiven an eternal debt— one we could never pay off… never! How grateful should we be?

It is truly astounding that Jesus paid that eternal debt for us and now “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). That verse means exactly what it says. If a person truly calls on Jesus for salvation then they will be saved from their sin to a relationship with God through Him. Then out of great gratitude that person who sincerely calls on His Name will seek to become what He desires and faithfully serve Him.

In Christ we are: new creatures, forgiven, saved, reconciled, righteous, sanctified, justified, glorified, heirs of God, joint heirs with Jesus, children of God, friends of Jesus, disciples, light, salt, temples of God’s Holy Spirit, branches on the Vine, fruit-bearers, wheat, good soil, good fish, finders of the pearl of great price, the found prodigal son, finders of the lost coin, fishermen, disciplers… disciples! Dear Father, please help me to love much understanding the great forgiveness You have extended to me through Your Son Jesus. Now may I extend much love to others, the love You have extended to me. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
