Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you. —Deuteronomy 4:2

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll. —Revelation 22:18-19

Woe to those who would add to or take away from what God has to say! Obviously the world will not accept the Word of God and so do not be surprised about that. That rejection will be obvious— a frontal attack. What we really need to watch out for are those who claim they are followers of Jesus and twist the Word of God to meet their own objectives. Yes, these are the ones to beware of.

This is why it is so important that we know what God has to say. We need to know His Word and so when others speak something contrary we can immediately identify it as false. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth” (II Timothy 2:15). Dear Father, may I listen to Your Word above all else. But, may I not just hear Your Word, may I do what You say. Yes, may that be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son, Jesus.
