Then, surrounded by the Pharisees, Jesus asked them a question: “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” They replied, “He is the son of David.” Jesus responded, “Then why does David, speaking under the inspiration of the Spirit, call the Messiah ‘my Lord’? For David said, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies beneath your feet.’ Since David called the Messiah ‘my Lord,’ how can the Messiah be his son?” No one could answer him. And after that, no one dared to ask him any more questions. —Matthew 23:41-46

They did not understand that the Messiah would be both the Son of God and the Son of man— God manifest in the flesh (Romans 1:1-4; John 1:14). They were confounded by His question— “Since David called the Messiah ‘my Lord,’ how can the Messiah be his son?” No, they did not understand.

But it was and it was for our great benefit that we could come into relationship with our Father through the Son and only through His Son! Then we will be with Him forever in that glorious place— Heaven! How grateful we are that He has allowed us to understand this… at least to some degree!

Dear Father, please show me how I fit into this plan of Yours. As you do, may I be faithful in what you desire me to be and do. May it be so in the authority of Your Son and Spirit.
