SIN AND DEATH

…for unless you believe that I Am who I claim to be, you will die in your sins. —John 8:24

There are only two ways to die and only two ways to live. If a person truly believes in Jesus they are set free from the power and penalty of sin. They can now live a life that is pleasing to God. But if a person does not trust Jesus they are still in the bondage of sin and unable to “escape from the devil’s trap. For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants” (II Timothy 2:26). The sad thing about this is that they don’t even understand they are captive to Satan and are doing what he wants.

The person who has trusted the Lord Jesus Christ is forgiven of their sin and will never be condemn. Jesus took the punishment and penalty for their sin on the cross. When that person dies they will go to heaven to be with Jesus. What a joy that will be! Sadly, those who have not trusted Jesus will have to take the punishment and penalty for their sin that they would not trust Jesus to take. When those people die they will thrown into the Lake of Fire forever (Revelation 20:15). This is a terrible place and no, you will not be partying with friends there. To see what it is going to be like read Luke 16:19-31.

Everyone everywhere is commanded to repent (changed mind about sin, turning from sin) and trust the Lord Jesus because “For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead” (Acts 17:31). Will you live and die freed from the penalty and power of sin or will you live and die in the bondage and penalty for sin? Your answer will determine your eternal destiny— heaven or hell.

Dear Father, thank You for the freedom I have in Jesus. I am grateful for Him taking the punishment for my sin at the cross. Oh, that I would live a life of gratitude in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. May it be so!
