WORSHIP GOD ONLY
But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.” —Acts 10:26
They bowed down to him and kissed his ring. Others have kissed the toe on a statute of a Christian leader of the past so much that it has deteriorated. People worshipping other people ought not to be.
When Cornelius fell at Peter’s feet in reverence Peter told him to get up because he himself is only a man. Men are not to be revered and worshipped. In Revelation 19:10 we read that John “fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship God only. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.” John was told by the angel to worship God only. No man or angel or anything else is to be worshipped— only God is to be!
Now this tells us who Jesus is because when He was worshipped. Those worshipping Him were not told to stop. The wise men came to worship Jesus (Matthew 2:1-2). The disciples worshipped Jesus (Matthew 14:33; 28:17). All the angels are to worship Jesus (Hebrews 1:6). Are you worshipping Jesus? As His follower we will for He is worthy.
Dear Father, thank You for sending Your Son. May all God’s people and all of Creation worship Him! May it be so.
