YOUR ARE GOD’S FRIEND OR ENEMY

Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. —Luke 11:23

The big game had arrived and thousands were gathered. The home team crowd was seated on one side of the stadium while the opponents were on the other. As the game started and progressed you could easily identify which side was for which team and which was against the other. There were no middle grounders— no one was cheering for both teams. You were either for or against a team.

So it is with Jesus, there are no middle grounders, no fence sitters, no one that can like or be on both sides. We are told in James 4:4 that “anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.” Again, in First John 2:15 we are told to “not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.”

This verse above and others are very clear— there are only two sides. You are either with Jesus and gathering with Him or you are against Jesus and scattering from Him. Before I acknowledge that I was sinner, that I trespassed God’s law, and trusted the Lord Jesus’ finished work at the cross, I did not realized I was an enemy of God. Like many, I believed in God and heard some about Jesus, but I had not entered willfully into a relationship with Jesus. Here is what Romans 5: 10 says, “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!” This verse tells me that I was an enemy of God. That is not a very good place to be! Again, James 4:4 also tells us that when I was a friend of the world (the world system headed up by Satan—the kingdom of darkness) I was an enemy of God. The wisdom of the flesh is an enemy of God (Romans 8:7) and an enemy to righteousness (Acts 13:10).

An enemy of God can be identified: “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord?” (Acts 13:10); “Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”” (John 8:44-47).

You are either a friend of Jesus (John 15:4) or an enemy of God. Oh, it is my hope that you are a friend of God through the Lord Jesus Christ and are at peace with Him and no longer an enemy (Romans 5:1). The enemies of God are doomed forever! (Revelation 20:15).

Dear Father, I am so grateful that when I was Your enemy Jesus died for my sin and by trusting Him I became Your Friend. Thank you with all my heart!
