THE KING OF LIGHT HAS COME!

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. —Isaiah 9:2

Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this. —Isaiah 9:7

It was completely dark, so dark you could not see your hand place right in front of your face. The flashlights had been turned off as we sat in a huge cavern halfway through the cave we were exploring. Without light a person would be utterly lost without direction or sight to ensure firm footing. The darkness would be a death sentence for anyone in this cave without a light. There were dangerous holes that opened up in the floor with underground rivers below. It would be hopeless without a light.

The whole world is in utter darkness, blind and unable to spiritually navigate its dangers. People of this world are in danger of eternal death and they do not even understand this. But, a great light has come! “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world” (John 1:1-9). Jesus had come! The Prophet, John the Baptist, bore witness of Him who is the Light. This Light gives life to men and enlightens their lives so they can have understanding and see in this dark world.

This Light was foretold that He would establish “the throne of David” forever. It is amazingly wonderful how the Lord God Almighty wove the pieces of his plan together over the ages. David lived about 1000 B.C. and Isaiah prophesied the coming King of Light about 730 B.C. Jesus would be in the line of David. Both Joseph and Mary’s lines of descendents trace back to David. Joseph’s line goes through David’s son Solomon (Matthew chapter 1). Mary’s line goes through David’s son Nathan (Luke chapter 3).

It was also prophesied by Jacob that “The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his” (Genesis 49:10). King David, Joseph and Mary are all in the line of Judah, the son of Jacob (whose name was changed to Israel by the Lord) by Leah. Romans 1:1-4 says, “Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his earthly life was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was appointed the Son of God in power by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Yes, it is truly wondrous how the Lord God Almighty wove the coming of the Light of the World into the fabric of His purposes (John 1:9; 8:12; 9:5; 12:46). Now people have a choice to make. They can either come to the Light or not (John 3:19). Have you come to the Light, Jesus? If you have, rejoice. You can truly know God through Jesus His Son and many of His purposes through His Word. Have you not trusted Jesus? Why not now! “Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Thank You, Father, for giving me sight in the Light, Jesus. I am grateful!
