GOD’S DESIRES FOR US

GOD’S DESIRES FOR US

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles. —I Timothy 2:1-7

As I read the above portion of God’s Word I do not sense criticism or condemnation, but an encouragement to prayer, to living peaceful and quiet lives, to be godly and holy. There is a wantingness in these words to please our Savior God and to have the same desire that He has—- that “all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” Jesus is the only mediator between God and man. He is the only redeemer who gave Himself for us. Being a witness was Paul’s purpose and this was the message he was to herald. It is to be our message to those around us as well.

“Petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.” This includes “all those in authority.” It is God’s desire for people to be saved. Is that our desire as well regardless of who they are? He wants them to come to a knowledge of the truth. Is that our desire too? May it be so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8Sx_U0Ztr8

Dear Father, may I have the same desires that You have. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it!
