KEEP PRAYING!
And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’ ” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth? —Luke 18:1-8
“Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” Will He find faith in me and in you? How will this faith be seen according to the verses above? It will be seen in persistent prayer— a dependency upon God and expectancy of Him answering— on-going communication with Him.
In the parable above the widow lady was seeking justice and she did not give up requesting that justice until the answer came. This parable is talking about persistence. The widow lady really wanted an answer to her situation and did not give up. When you and I pray, do we truly want an answer? Will we continue to seek Him to answer? Or, when an answer does not come when we think it should, will we give up and not pray anymore about it?
You keep on asking! You keep on seeking! You keep on knocking! It will be given. You will find. The door will open. But you must be persistent. Yea, we are commanded to be persistent (Matthew 7:7). “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:9-11). So do not give up. He will answer in His time! He will answer according to what is good for us.
A lack of prayer in our lives indicates a lack of faith— a lack of trust in God. We are seeking to accomplish things in our own strength and not looking to Him to act on our behalf. Which do you really want? Do you want to seek to do things in your own strength or seek Him to accomplish what you cannot? Oh, that we would persistently seek His face.
