LISTEN TO JESUS!

“This is my beloved Son; listen to him.” —Mark 9:7

            Our Father tells us to listen to His Son. Am I? Are you? Have you spent time at His feet today listening to Jesus? If you and I have not listened to Him then how are we trying to live life— by our own thoughts, words and deeds? That must be it if you and I are not listening to Him. I need to listen to Him every single day and all through the day. Otherwise I will be living life for me. I dare say the same thing would be true of you as well.

            A verse of God’s Word impacted my life years ago and is still doing so today and I trust will for the rest of my life.   The verse is Isaiah 50:4 which says, “The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.”

            In this verse I see:

• It is my Lord who gives me the “tongue of the learned
• My Lord gives me the “tongue of the learned “that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that isweary”
• My Lord wakes me morning by morning
• My Lord wakes my “ear to hear as the learned.”

Mary sat at Jesus’ feet listening to Him (Luke 10:39).   The disciples were blessed to hear Jesus (Matthew 13:16). Of the apostles it was said, ‘they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).   There is no way around this. To be the servant of the Lord one has to spend time and listen to The Servant of the Lord— “The student is not above the teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like their teacher” (Luke 6:40). Oh, to be like Jesus!

What I become will be determined by where my ear is being attentive, applying what I have heard. So who am I listening to? “Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character” (I Corinthians 15:33). Whose company am I keeping? Am I listening to my Father’s Son or am I lending my ears to corrupting company?  “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.”

Dear Father may I be listening to Your Son often through this day and every day. Oh, that this would be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son. So be it!   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSbJPZLNIuc&t=15s
