WAIT PATIENTLY

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.  “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”  The LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.  It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the LORD. —Lamentations 3:22-25

Is it not from the mouth of the Most High that good and bad come? —Lamentations 3:38

His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!”  He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”  In all this, Job did not sin in what he said. —Job 2:9-10

            Are you in the midst of sorrow?  Wait on the Lord for He is good.  Are you experiencing trouble of any sort?  Wait on the Lord, for He is good.  His love for you has not changed.  This morning His mercies are new.  Tomorrow morning and the morning after that and the morning after that until our last morning—- His mercies will be new each morning!  His faithfulness is great!  Trust Him!

            Both good and bad ultimately come from God for His purposes.  If it were up to us we would want our lives just to be “a bed of roses” and roses without thorns.  Here’s what Job understood— “Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?”  Even though Satan was the instigator of Job’s troubles— the loss of his animals, the loss of most of his servants, the loss of his children, the loss of his health, the loss of his wife’s support, the loss of his friends encouragement— God ultimately allowed Satan to do this in Job’s life (Job 1:8-12; 2:3-6).  When Job’s wife told him to “curse God and die” he said she was talking like one of the “foolish women.”  Job did not understand everything that was going on, but he had a proper perspective on trusting the Lord in hard times as well as good times.  God does not change. 

Now Job was not a perfect man and his emotions got the better of his tongue at times.  But our Lord was patient with him and challenged Job when he was not thinking right.  Job’s response was “I am unworthy—how can I reply to you?  I put my hand over my mouth.  I spoke once, but I have no answer— twice, but I will say no more” (Job 40:4-5).  And Job’s final response was “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.  You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’  Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.  “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.’  My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.  Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes” (Job 42:2-6).

            Our Lord God Almighty is so much above us.  Trust His steadfast love.  Trust His steadfast mercy.  Trust His steadfast faithfulness.  Put your hope in Him.  Wait patiently for Him.  He is working.  He is always working.  Trust…

Dear Father I thank You for Your plans of which so many I do not understand.  May I be and do my part in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.  Help me to patiently wait on You.
