BREAD THAT SATISFIES

At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”—John 6:41-42

Physical bread has limitations. It can only feed so many. It gets old and moldy. But the Eternal Bread from heaven lasts forever for those who take of Him. This Bread fills us and satisfies us who believe. This will be the case for all eternity.

The Jews could not understand who Jesus was and is. They were blinded, ignorant and clueless even though they should have known. They were the chosen people for the Eternal Bread to come out of. They had the Word of God. They should have known. Apparently they did not know the supernatural events that surrounded the birth of Jesus. They saw Jesus as the physical son of Joseph and Mary. Shouldn’t they have understood the “virgin birth” stated in Isaiah 7:14?

The Jews said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?” Apparently they did not know them too well. They couldn’t have been too intimate with them or they more than likely would have heard how Jesus was born. The Jews may have known of Joseph and Mary, but they surely did not know them very well.

Dear Father I thank You for Your Bread from heaven. May I faithfully “feed” on Him and live a life that honors Him. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it!
