THE BLESSING OF CHILDREN

In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.” —I Samuel 1:10-11

“Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.” —I Samuel 1:15-16

I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. —I Samuel 1:27

A barren woman who desires to have a child goes through “deep anguish.” There are many tears as she feels miserable in not being able to conceive. She is deeply troubled and pours “her heart out to the Lord.” She is in great anguish and grief and prays to have a child.

This is not the heart of a woman who supports abortion, but supports having children. She prays about her barrenness because she knows that the Lord can enable her to have a child even when it seems impossible. In the passage above Hannah was going through all these emotions as she sought the Lord to bless her with a child. He not only blessed her with one child, but with many children. Dear Father in Heaven be pleased to put Your people in place to halt this atrocity of abortion. Oh, that we as a nation would see children as You do— precious. May it be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it!
