BEWARE OF THE COMPANY YOU KEEP!
Bad company corrupts good character. —I Corinthians 15:33
Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? —II Corinthians 6:14
We are not to be isolated from unbelievers because they need to hear the gospel (I Corinthians 5:9-10), but we are not to be yoked with them. To be yoked is to spend too much time with them going where they go, doing what they are doing. There can be a corrosive effect on the believer who spends too much time with bad company. “If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience” (I Corinthians 10:12-13). This corrosive effect is gradual and one day the yoked believer keeping bad company will ponder how they have drifted so far from what the Lord desires. Dear Father, help me to be wise as I seek to share the good news with those who are lost. May I not get drawn into those things that do not please You, but do those things that are pleasing in Your sight. May this be so in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
