JESUS IS THE CORNERSTONE
“I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem, chosen for great honor, and anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” Yes, you who trust him recognize the honor God has given him. But for those who reject him, “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they do not obey God’s word, and so they meet the fate that was planned for them. But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. —I Peter 2:6-9
Everything in the building is to be plumbed and level off the cornerstone. The cornerstone determines the rest of the building. So Jesus is to us, His church. Everything is to be determined from His perspective, according to His desires, not mine, not yours. Those of us that understand who Jesus is have “recognized the honor God has given to him” and have obeyed His Word. May we finish the race He has laid out before us faithfully!
But the majority, sadly, reject Jesus— “The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.” And, “He is the stone that makes people stumble, the rock that makes them fall.” The passage above tells us that people who don’t trust Jesus “stumble because they do not obey God’s word and so meet the fate that was planned for them.”
I have often pondered how sorrowful it would be to spend an eternity without God in a place of torment—hell. I cannot fathom it and I am so grateful that I will not experience it because of what Jesus has done for me and because I trust Him. I have called upon His Name (Romans 10:13) and it is my hope that you have. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD6khv6pGkw
Dear Father, I am grateful for Jesus being the Cornerstone. May my life be “plumbed and level” from His, doing those things that are pleasing in your sight. May it be so.
