WHO WILL GO…

And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” —Isaiah 6:8

They say in the military that you never volunteer. I have heard people say this about the workplace as well. You may have heard it said about the commander who was looking for a volunteer from a line of men. Everybody but one man stepped backwards one step and the man left out front appeared to have stepped forward. He was thanked for volunteering before he knew what happened.

People have said that the church is a group of volunteers and that could not be further from the truth. Too many times the church acts like volunteers, but it is not a volunteer “army.” No, it is an enlisted “army” that we could not be in unless the Lord God Almighty called us up (John 6:44). Jesus enlisted us— “Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them” (II Timothy 2:4) and in John 15:16— “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you…”

In the above verse above the Lord asked who would go and Isaiah said that he would. What is the Lord desiring of us and are we willing to do His will? Am we spending time talking with Him (Luke 18:1-8), listening to His Word (II Timothy 3:16-17), sharing the gospel with the lost (Acts 1:8), fellowshipping with other believers (Hebrews 10:24-25)? Are we truly loving God and our neighbor (Matthew 22:37-40) and being obedient to the Lord Jesus (John 14:21)?

May we not be like those who would step back when the Lord desires something of us and want someone else to do it. No, may we instead be quick to obey!
Dear Father, whatever it is You desire of me, oh that I would be quick to do Your will and not seek to “get out of it.” I know it is best to be in Your will and doing Your will. This is my desire and may if be so in Jesus’ authority and by the Holy Spirit’s power.
