I CALLED ON HIM BECAUSE HE CALLED TO ME
I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith. —Romans 1:11-12
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. Oh, today, let us encourage each other by the gift of faith our Lord has given us. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). I love the line in The Silver Chair in the Chronicles of Narnia series when Asland says, “You would not have called to me unless I had been calling to you.” We read in John 6:44— “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.” So, a person can only call on our Lord if our Father is drawing them.
Brothers and sisters, fellow followers/disciples of Jesus, let us rejoice with each other today, knowing our Father drew us to Jesus with the gospel we heard and responded to. This is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes. So, let us not be ashamed of the gospel, but proclaim it. This is God’s righteousness revealed and this is how the righteous ought to live— by faith— trusting Who God is and what God has done in our lives! “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (II Corinthians 5:21). Let us proclaim this gospel so others can call on His Name because “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). Yes, Dear Father, may we proclaim this gospel so others may call on Jesus to save them from their sin to eternal life with Him.
