COME AND SEE THE LAMB OF GOD!
The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “So you are Simon the son of John? You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter). The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” —John 1:35-46
Who have you and I said to someone about Jesus— “Come and see?” Have we extended this invitation to others because we ourselves met this “Lamb of God?” We saw for ourselves that He indeed is, as Nathanael said, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” (John 1:49). Upon realizing this, have we gone to others to invite them to Jesus— “the Lamb of God?”
Look how this happened…
- John the Baptist saw that Jesus was the Son of God (John 1:34)
- John the Baptist then pointed out Jesus, the Lamb of God to two of His disciples
- Andrew was one of the two and then brought Simon Peter to Jesus
- Jesus found Philip (of the same city as Simon and Andrew)
- Then Philip found Nathanael and told him to “come and see” Jesus
Jesus had invited two of John’s disciples to “come and see.” Philip picked up on this after Jesus invited him to “follow me.” Philip said to Nathanael about Jesus — “Come and see.” Both Andrew and Philip extended invitations to “come and see” for yourselves. This is what we are to be doing as well. We are to extend an invitation to the lost to “come and see” Jesus for themselves. This is what I love about Discovery Bible Studies. We are inviting people to “come and see” Jesus for themselves just as these men did and just as Paul later did with the Bereans who search “the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” And because they accepted the invitation to “come and see” in the Word of God themselves, many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women of high standing as well as men” (Acts 17:11-12).
So, brothers and sisters, fellow followers/disciples of Jesus, let us also invite others to “come and see” Jesus in His Word. Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. Yes, and may this all be for Your Honor and glory! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVn1BEAWqcc&list=RDjVn1BEAWqcc&start_radio=1
