FLEE TO JESUS AND ESCAPE THE JUDGMENT TO COME!
For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. —Luke 17:24-29
When Jesus returns to this earth, it will be unexpected. Just as those in the days of Noah did not expect the world to be covered with water in a world-wide flood. They did not heed the warning. Instead, life went on as normal for them— “People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark.” But “Then the flood came and destroyed them all.” No, they did not heed the warning and perished. Today, if you do not heed the warning of judgment when Jesus comes back, then it will not go well with you. Life will continue on for you as normal, but then suddenly, death will take you or Jesus will come back. Either way, you will not be ready. Please, please do not put calling on Jesus off if you have not called on Him already—- “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).
There are those who may read this and say, like others have, have scoffed.
“Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.” —II Peter 3:3-7
Lot is another real-life illustration about the end. Just as it was in the days of Lot, “People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.” So also, when Jesus comes back people will not be ready. They will just be focused on this life. It is easy to see this happening because the majority of people are doing this today. They are focused on this life and not preparing for the next. I have talked with many people and this is how they are living— for the here and now. They are not thinking about their eternal destiny. Brothers and sisters, fellow followers/disciples of Jesus, we are to take the message to them. They will not be coming to us. They are focused on this temporary life. So may we bring the message of the gospel to them and warn them of the judgment to come.
