JESUS FREES FROM SATAN’S BONDAGE

For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places. —Luke 8:29

The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.”  So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him. —Luke 8:38-39

This demon possessed man, like so many today, needed to come to his “senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (II Timothy 2:26).  The National Institutes of Health (NIH) “reports that 57.8 million adults live with some form of mental illness.”  Be sure that many of those are demonically induced as had happened in this man’s life we are looking at today.

This man mentioned today was in really bad shape.  Look what he did!  This was beyond just human strength.  He—

  • Had more than one demon in him
  • The demons seized (taken control of) him many times
  • Was chained hand and foot
  • Was kept under guard
  • Had broken the chains
  • Was driven to solitary places by the demons
  • Was freed by Jesus as he commanded the demons to come out of the man
  • Wanted to go with Jesus after Jesus freed him from the demons
  • Was sent away by Jesus
  • Was told by Jesus to return home
  • Was told by Jesus to tell how much God had done for him
  • Was obedient
  • Told all over town how much Jesus had done for him

First, those “57.8 million adults live with some form of mental illness” need the freedom that only Jesus can give them. And yes, “if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).  May we be sensitive toward those suffering and share the freedom they can have in Jesus.

Second, whoever is set free by Jesus, including me and you— fellow follower/disciple of Jesus, are also sent to tell others what great things He has done for us.  Are we?  May it be so, Dear Father by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Precious Son Jesus.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QANH8MWuyaE&list=RDQANH8MWuyaE&start_radio=1
