RIGHTEOUSNESS
It is not because of your righteousness or your integrity that you are going in to take possession of their land… Understand, then, that it is not because of your righteousness that the Lord your God is giving you this good land to possess, for you are a stiff-necked people. —Deuteronomy 9:5-6
May they be blotted out of the book of life and not be listed with the righteous. —Psalm 69:28
No one can be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted. —Proverbs 12:3
For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. —Galatians 3:27
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. —I Corinthians 12:12-13
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. —II Corinthians 5:21
Here’s a few things we can understand about righteousness—
- What we receive from our Lord is not because of our righteousness. We cannot make ourselves right with God.
- The righteous cannot be blotted out of the Book of Life.
- The righteous cannot be uprooted.
- The righteous are clothed with Christ
- The righteous are baptized into Christ, into His body by the Holy Spirit
We have no righteousness of our own. God’s Word is very clear on this.
“There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit. The poison of vipers is on their lips. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and misery mark their ways, and the way of peace they do not know. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” —Romans 3:10-18
How is one made righteous? “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe” (Romans 3:22). One only can be made right with God through Jesus. Jesus said Himself— “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). We also read in Acts 4:12 that “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
Truly, the righteous, those who have called on Jesus (Romans 10:13), will not be blotted out of the Lamb’s Book of Life (Revelation 21:27). They can never be uprooted. But those not written in the Book of Life will be cast into the Lake of Fire— “Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15). Is your name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, never to be blotted out? If not, call on Him now and your name will then never be blotted out of the Lamb’s Book of Life!
