KNOWING AND APPLYING GOD’S WORD IS FOUNDATIONAL TO THE DISCIPLE OF JESUS!

Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?” —Mark 12:24

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”  “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” —Mark 12:28-31

While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?  David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared: “‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”’  David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?” Mark 12:35-37

For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. —Psalm 48:14

Simply put, when people do not know what God’s Word says, then, as Jesus said, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?”  When they do not know what God’s Word says, then they will not know that “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”  “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.”  Not knowing what God says, a person will not love God or people.  They will be living for themselves.

Not only that, but people who do not know the Word of God will not understand who Jesus is.  Rightly so, Jesus is the Messiah the son of David.  The question is— When David mentioned by the Holy Spirit that— “the Lord said to my Lord,” How can the Messiah, who is Lord of David, also be the son of David?  Of course, we who know what God’s Word says know that—

“You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” —Luke 1:31-33

Yes, “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”) (Matthew 1:23).  Jewish leaders knew what Jesus was claiming about Himself and they “tried all the harder to kill Him. Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God” (John 5:18).  And Jesus said of Himself— ““Truly, truly, I tell you,” Jesus declared, “before Abraham was born, I am!”  Do if we do not know God’s Word, we will not understand who Jesus is!  For those of us who know Him, have a relationship with Him, we know “this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.”  And for that, Dear Father, we thank You.  Now may I live faithfully for Jesus by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxpPIa-BskY&list=RDoxpPIa-BskY&start_radio=1
