A REMINDER OF GOD’S SOVEREIGN RULE

A REMINDER OF GOD’S SOVEREIGN RULE

Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal robes of blue and white, with a great golden crown and a robe of fine linen and purple, and the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced. —Esther 8:15

For Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur (that is, cast lots), to crush and to destroy them. But when it came before the king, he gave orders in writing that his evil plan that he had devised against the Jews should return on his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.   Therefore they called these days Purim, after the term Pur. Therefore, because of all that was written in this letter, and of what they had faced in this matter, and of what had happened to them, the Jews firmly obligated themselves and their offspring and all who joined them, that without fail they would keep these two days according to what was written and at the time appointed every year, that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation. —Esther 9:24-28

In 2024 Purim started at Sunset on March 23rd and ended at sunset on March 24th.  After 3,500 years when Haman sought to destroy the Jews and our Sovereign Lord brought rescue through Esther, the holiday commemorating that event is still on our calendar!

It is surely true that “When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan” (Proverbs 29:2; 11;10; 28:12).  It was true in Esther’s day, 3,500 years ago and it is still true today.  When the wicked rule the people surely moan and mourn under their reign.  But, as in Esther’s day, our Sovereign Lord can raise up people who would do His will and then the people would rejoice as they did in Esther’s day.

Purim… let it be a reminder that our Lord can turn things around in a short time through those who desire to do what is right.  Oh, in our day, in these United States of America, may He be pleased to raise up people who will do what is right.  May He be pleased to defuse those who are calling “evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter” (Isaiah 5:20).  Yes, Dear Father, may You be pleased to do so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  So may it be!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On-whMoulOM
