BEWARE OF THE RABBLE!
BEWARE OF THE RABBLE!
Now the rabble that was among them had a strong craving. And the people of Israel also wept again and said, “Oh that we had meat to eat! We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic. But now our strength is dried up, and there is nothing at all but this manna to look at.” —Numbers 11:4-6
And say to the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the LORD, saying, “Who will give us meat to eat? For it was better for us in Egypt.” Therefore the LORD will give you meat, and you shall eat. —Numbers 11:18
While the meat was yet between their teeth, before it was consumed, the anger of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck down the people with a very great plague. Therefore the name of that place was called Kibroth-hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had the craving. —Numbers 11:33-34
There were those among the Israelites that “had a strong craving.” It seemed this “rabble” stirred up the Israelites to complain for lack of meat to eat. They were remembering what they had to eat in Egypt. They remembered the fish “that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.” The cravings of their bellies affect the thinking of their brains. Did they not remember the harsh bondage they endured for 400 years?
Because of the lack of food they desired, did they really think it was better for them in Egypt? The Lord did indeed give them the meat they so craved after. But… it came with a high price because all those who craved among them were judged, died and were buried.
Cravings are selfish desires and lack of contentment. The Lord had provided manna every day for the people to eat. All they had to do is collect it. They had plenty to eat, but the rabble among they stirred them up. Instead of being thankful for what they had, they complained.
That is the case today in so many situations today. It only takes the “rabble” discontented minority to stir up the majority to follow their lead. The “rabble” directed people away from our Lord and away from doing the right thing or even wanting the right thing. It is so true today and “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character’” (I Corinthians 15:53). Who is influencing you?
Brother and sister, fellow follower of Jesus, let us make sure we are following our Lord and not some discontented rabble influencing and flaming trouble. Yes, Dear Father, may I keep my eyes fixed on Jesus and His desires and not some rabble’s desires. May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Dear Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ODe4sGCKxc
