NO BOASTING IN HUMAN LEADERS
What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building. —I Corinthians 3:5-9
So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God. —I Corinthians 3:21-23
This “boasting” or “glorying” in men, or I would even say denominations, we are not to do! But so much of it happens. Someone thinks this person is the one to follow or that denomination is the one to follow and there is a boasting as if that is the only “true” Church— as if they only have the full truth.
- We are all to be servants with a kingdom focus
- We are each assigned our task by our Lord
- Some plant the seed of God’s Word
- Others water the seed of God’s Word
- Only God can make that seed to germinate, sprout and grow
- God, not any man or denomination, should get the glory
- Each servant, those planting or watering, have only one purpose
- Each servant will be rewarded for their own labor
- We all are God’s co-workers
- No more boasting in leaders or denominations
- All is ours and we are members of each other
- The world is ours
- Life is ours
- Death is ours
- The present is ours
- The future is ours
- All is ours
- We belong to Jesus
- Jesus is of God and is God
Dear Father, please help me to be the servant You desire of me. May I not elevate one person or denomination above another. Indeed, may I be kingdom focused and lift up the name of Jesus.
