BE OVERWHELMED BY JESUS— LISTENING TO HIM AND OBEYING HIM

When the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the palace he had built, the food on his table, the seating of his officials, the attending servants in their robes, his cupbearers, and the burnt offerings he made at the temple of the Lord, she was overwhelmed.  She said to the king, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard. How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.” —I Kings 10:4-9

King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. —I Kings 10:23-24

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. —Psalm 30:5

The queen of Sheba “was overwhelmed” by the wisdom of Solomon and all that he had accomplished and his organization skills.  She said, “The report I heard in my own country about your achievements and your wisdom is true. But I did not believe these things until I came and saw with my own eyes. Indeed, not even half was told me; in wisdom and wealth you have far exceeded the report I heard.”  She went on to say, “How happy your people must be! How happy your officials, who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom! Praise be to the Lord your God, who has delighted in you and placed you on the throne of Israel. Because of the Lord’s eternal love for Israel, he has made you king to maintain justice and righteousness.”

Truly, “King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.”  And yet Jesus said, “The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here” (Matthew 12:42).  It was said of Solomon that he “was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart.”  God said of him that “wisdom and knowledge will be given you. And I will also give you wealth, possessions and honor, such as no king who was before you ever had and none after you will have” (II Chronicles 1:12).

Yes, many came to hear Solomon’s wisdom, but our Lord Jesus is greater… much greater.  How much more should we be coming to Him to hear and gain wisdom?  Truly, “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope” (Psalm 30:5).  And so, “The Sovereign LORD has given me his words of wisdom, so that I know how to comfort the weary. Morning by morning he wakens me and opens my understanding to his will” (Isaiah 50:4).  As Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68).  So, let us run to Jesus and listen to Him who said, “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them” (John 14:21).  May we be obedient to Your Word, Dear Father, by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Precious Son Jesus.  So may it be!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4dprjHfMDY&list=RDr4dprjHfMDY&start_radio=1
