RUN THE RACE WITH ETERNAL VALUES IN VIEW
To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. —John 3:27
“He must become greater; I must become less.” —John 3:30
All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. —Proverbs 14:23-24
John the Baptist was given a particular work from heaven to accomplish. His work did not end as he expected, I’m sure. His execution ended the work he was to do. Jesus also was given a specific work to complete from heaven. I am sure many on earth at that time did not think His work on earth would end the way it did. He was also executed. You and I also have work given to us from heaven. To complete the work our Lord God Almighty has given us means that “He must become greater; I must become less.” We also do not know what the end of our work will look like. Although, we know we will die unless Jesus comes back.
There are so many things we can work hard for, but are we working hard for the right things, for the things that heaven has delegated to us, the things our Lord God Almighty has given to us to accomplish. Are we truly running “with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). We cannot just talk about “running the race marked out for us.” No, we need to be actually running it and doing so with perseverance. All the while “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.”
So, what are we running for? Whose race are we running? Are we running for the temporal, evaporating desires of this world or are we running for the eternal desires of heaven. Oh, Dear Father, may we be running for heavenly desires by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. Yes, and may this be so, not for our glory, but all for Your glory! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nhk_5c6H-yc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JxwLdtnwx8&list=RD7JxwLdtnwx8&start_radio=1
