THE CORNERSTONE
The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. —Luke 20:17
The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. —Psalm 89:11
The most important stone (Jesus) was rejected by the builders (Israel/Gentiles). It is clear that the heavens and earth and all that is in the earth, belong to Jesus because He founded or created it and all that is in it—
- In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. —Genesis 1:1
- You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. —Psalm 45:7
- I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One. Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Whose hands have gathered up the wind? Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is the name of his son? Surely you know! —Proverbs 30:3-4
- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made. —John 1:1-2
- The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. —Colossians 1:15-17
- In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. —Hebrew 1:1-3
It is very clear from God’s Word who Jesus is. Even the Jewish leaders in Jesus’ day realized who He was claiming to be and wanted to kill Him. Yes, they rejected the stone that became the cornerstone! —
- Because of this, the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him. Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God. —John 5:18
- “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!” At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. —John 8:58-59
- “I and the Father are one.” Again, his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
Yes, they rejected the very One who created them and sought to kill Him and finally did. But “And the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you” (Romans 8:11). This is true of every person who has called on Jesus to save them (Romans 10:13). Praise to “our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word” (I Thessalonians 2:16-17). May we live faithfully for Him in the power of His Holy Spirit and in the authority of His Son Jesus— the Cornerstone! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9hSIUZGfbA&list=RDP9hSIUZGfbA&start_radio=1
