BY GOD’S GRACE…
BY GOD’S GRACE…
Amos answered Amaziah, “I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees. But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ Now then, hear the word of the Lord. —Amos 7:14-16
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. —Psalm 127:1
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. —I Corinthians 3:10
Amos was an ordinary person. God works through ordinary people. He does most of His work through ordinary people. Amos was both a shepherd and an arborist— he took care of sheep and trees. “But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ Now then, hear the word of the Lord.” It was as he was working his normal work that our Lord called him to go share His Word.
Our Lord may not call us to leave our present vocation, but He has called us to share His Word. We are to be witnesses and disciple-makers (Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:16-20). He works through ordinary people just like you and me. I happen to be a heavy equipment operator when He called me. Just like you, I am called to share His Word with others.
Now, “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” But know this that when our Lord calls us to build, we “should build with care.” And “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9). So, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (I Corinthians 15:58). So let us be faithful as Amos was, knowing “the kingdom will be the Lord’s” as was the last words stated in the Book of Amos. Yes, “your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). It will happen and I am grateful to know this, Dear Father. Now may I be faithful in sharing Your Word as Amos was and may it be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. Yes, may it be so! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=morHP2cJoZs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYZw0dfLmLk&t=16s
