Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together! —Psalm —34:3
He is to be the greatest in our lives and His Name is to be lifted up. This is to be done with others as well as individuals. This can be done through music as we sing praises to Him and it is also done by the way we live our lives and share Him with others.
People share what is truly important to them. What is most important to you? Who is most important to you? It is seen by what you say and what you do. What do some people magnify and exalt?
- Spouses
- Children
- Family in general
- Jobs
- Wealth
- Cars
- Boats
- Other “toys”
- Travel
- Houses
- Health
- Reputation
- Power positions
- Religion
And we could list many other things. These things are not bad in themselves, no, it is the place they have in our loves. If they are more important than magnifying our Lord and exalting His Name, then that is idolatry.
Instead, all things must come under the two great commands that Jesus gave us in Matthew 22:37-40— “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. Dear Father, may I lift up the Name of Jesus and may He be of first most importance in my life. Yes, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. Yes, so may it be!
