THE WAY OF SALVATION

THE WAY OF SALVATION

Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family. Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God. —Acts 16:30-34

Our Lord uses all kinds of situations to put us in the right place at the right time.  In the case above, Paul and Silas were arrested after Paul drove out the demonic spirit from the fortune-telling woman.  She was freed but when her owners saw their means for income was gone, they accused Paul and Silas of breaking the law.  For that they were beaten and thrown into prison and their feet put in stocks.

Up to this point the situation seems pretty bleak, but when we understand the sovereignty of God, then we understand He can work through anything to accomplish His will. Paul and Silas were not complaining, instead they were praying and singing to God.  Would that be our response?  Do we trust God with our situations and instead of complaining, do we pray and sing to Him?  May it be so…

It was through this situation, and other things that happened in that situation, that the jailer came to the point of asking, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”  He was told, ““Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”  Not only was the jailer saved, but “his entire household that he had believed in God.”  Then they were “baptized at once, he and all his family.”

A hard, painful situation with two faithful followers depending on and praising God through it ended up seeing a whole household respond to the gospel.  Oh, that we would have the attitude of Paul and Silas when going through difficult circumstances which they had in this situation.  Yes, Dear Father, may I trust You to accomplish Your will in ways I would not choose.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Precious Son Jesus.  So may it be! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcmqSfr1ENY
