FELLOW FOLLOWERS OF JESUS— YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD— SHINE!

FELLOW FOLLOWER OF JESUS— YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD— SHINE!

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. —Matthew 5:14-16

`           Jesus is speaking to His disciples and plainly said to them, “You are the light of the world.”  That is true of His disciples today.  You and I who are following Jesus are the “Light of the world.”  Do you understand that?  “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” and this “whole world is under the control of the evil one” (Ephesians 6:13; I John 5:15).  “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (II Corinthians 4:4).

But the good news is that what “we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ” (II Corinthians 4:5-6).  As “lights of this world” we are to go into the darkness that our Lord would work through us to cause His light to shine into the hearts of others.  How does He do that?  “We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” (II Peter 1:19).  We bring the message to people (Romans 10:13-15) and we live and serve in such a way where that is a testimony to those around us as well.  Light— the Word of God and the Works of God.  These are what people need to see and hear that they may “give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

Are we (lights) bringing the Word of God (Light) to people and are we being an example in our works (light) as a testimony to them?  May it be so, Dear Father, by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.  Yes, may it be all for Your honor and glory and for the benefit of others.  So may we rejoice! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKkbIZtqhyQ
