THE BREVITY OF LIFE

THE BREVITY OF LIFE

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”—yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.  Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” —James 4:13-15

Our lives are so short here on earth, but it is amazing that whoever calls on Jesus will be saved (Romans 10:13) and will spend eternity with Jesus in that perfect place, the new heavens and earth.

With that in mind, we need to depend on our Lord for what we do.  We do not even know “what tomorrow will bring.”  Only our Lord knows. We can plan, but we need to understand it will only happen if our Lord “wills” it to.

Our life is so transient, like “a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.”  If our Lord wills us to live today, we will and if wills it not, we won’t.  Our very life is in His hands.  This is so comforting.  He alone knows “my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is” (Psalm 39:4).

It will not be long before our life vanishes from this world.  Let us live in such a way that will honor our Lord, seeking to do His will for His glory.  Yes, Dear Father, may this be so with the time I have left by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. So be it!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ4lAVu9VwU&list=RDtZ4lAVu9VwU&start_radio=1
