WE AND THIS WORLD ARE PASSING AWAY

For the present form of this world is passing away. —I Corinthians 7:31

Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. —Psalms 144:4

How sobering it is to know that we are like a breath and our lives are like a passing shadow— here for such a short time and then gone.  This present form of this world is also passing away.  It is winding down and soon it will no longer exist as it is.

It is so joyful and comforting to read these words—

Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”  He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” —Revelation 21:1-5

Time here is short.  So let us be faithful to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2).  Yes, let us do so that we might hear those words from Jesus— “Well done, good and faithful servant!” (Matthew 25:21).  Yes, Dear Father, may this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ4lAVu9VwU
