ACTIONS OUR LORD EXPECTS
ACTIONS OUR LORD EXPECTS
I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. —I Corinthians 5:9-11
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God…. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body…. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. —I Corinthians 6:9-11, 13, 19-20
We are to glorify God in our bodies and not be “sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers.” Those who live these lifestyles will not “inherit the kingdom of God.” We, as followers of Jesus, have been given God’s Holy Spirit and were bought with at a tremendous price, the crucifixion of Jesus. We have been washed clean, sanctified and justified in the Name of our Lord Jesus. So, let us live holy lives for Him!
Actually, “anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.” Unrepentant, professed believers who are involved in these areas mentioned above are not even to be associated with. Paul is not talking about unbelievers here, but about those who claim to be believers!
On the other hand we are “to associate with sexually immoral people… the sexually immoral of this world… the greedy and swindlers… idolaters…” These are who Jesus came to seek and save and He sent us to the same to seek and save. So, this being the case, are you reaching out to any of the “the sexually immoral of this world… the greedy and swindlers… idolaters?
It is comfortable hanging around those who know Jesus and it is a joy to do so. But we also have a directive from our Lord to be witnesses and make disciples. So are we? Dear Father, may it be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. Yes, may this be a priority in my life to honor You. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyFNAs2jRjU
