SPEAK ABOUT FAITH IN JESUS!
After several days, Felix returned with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess. He sent for Paul and listened to him speak about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul expounded on righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “You may go for now. When I find the time, I will call for you.” At the same time, he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe. So he sent for Paul frequently and talked with him. —Acts 24:24-26
What a mixed personality Felix was! On one hand he sent for Paul and “listened to him speak about faith in Christ Jesus.” But when “As Paul expounded on righteousness, self-control, and the coming judgment, Felix became frightened and said, “You may go for now. When I find the time, I will call for you.” Felix seemed to be convicted from what Paul was saying and he “became frightened.” But instead of yielding to the message he sent Paul away until, he said, “When I find the time, I will call for you.” How many people put off trusting in the message and say they will listen “When I find the time?”
Interestingly, on the other hand, Felix “sent for Paul frequently and talked with him.” But his motive was “he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe.” Really? Was it truly coming down to money for Felix? Either way, when he spent time with Paul, he was hearing the Word of God. We shall find out, one day, if Felix ever came to faith in Jesus. He had heard the Word and we know that faith comes through hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). Hopefully, Felix eventually acted on what he had heard from Paul.
Paul was imprisoned for Jesus, but being imprisoned did not stop him from speaking about Jesus to whoever he could, including Felix. What about you and I? What keeps us from speaking about Jesus— telling others about faith in Jesus? Oh, that our Lord would give us a passion like Paul’s for sharing Jesus with others.
