I AM A CHILD OF GOD!

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. —John 1:12-13

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! —John 1:29

For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. —Psalm 103:11-12

            Have you believed and received Jesus into your life?  If so, then you are a child of God— born-again (John 3:3-18).  This decision to call on the Lord so their sin can be forgiven is an act of a person’s will as they are drawn to Jesus by our Father (Romans 10:13; John 6:44).  When we call on Jesus to save us, because we believe in Him, then we receive Him and are born-again and then our sin has been removed from us as far as the east is from the west.  How far is the east from the west?  Well, go eastward and you will always go in that same direction forever.  Or, go westward and you will go in that direction forever.  It is not like going north or south.  Go south and you can’t go south forever.  Eventually you will start heading north.  Or, go north and eventually you will make the turn and start heading south.  So what God is saying to those who believe is that their sin is gone forever!  The Lamb of God has taken our sin away as far as the east is from the west— our sin is eternally gone.

            The amazing work of Jesus at the cross and through the resurrection has already taken care of the sin problem for all men— “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (I John 2:2).  And Jesus rose from the dead proving that He indeed is the Son of God (Romans 1:4).  How amazing is this?  How astounding is this?  How awesome is this? — That God’s Son was willing to come to this world, allow His own creation to kill Him, rise from the dead and now He offers forgiveness and eternal life with Him to whoever calls on His Name to be saved!  Wow… rejoice!

            Again, a person has to call on His name and God causes them to be born-again—to become a child of God— to be born into His family.  Again, this is an act of a person’s will— it does not happen just because a person comes from a “Christian” family.  That does not cause one to be born-again.  Nor do I just say I am going to be born-again and that makes it so.  Also, no man can cause another man to be born-again.  God alone causes one to be born-again as He draws a person to Jesus to be saved and He does work through people to bring that about, but in the end, it is He who saves a person— causing them to be born-again.
