Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the leader of my people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD, and I will add fifteen years to your life. —II Kings 20:5-6

Our Lord God Almighty can do whatever He desires.  Someone may be sick to the point of death, like Hezekiah.  Pray… our Lord heals and it just may be in His will to heal the sick person.  What our Lord did for Hezekiah, He can do for anyone He desires to.

I clearly remember when my dad was alive and had gotten sick.  The doctors had given my dad a week to live and he did not look good at all.  Their prognosis seemed to be accurate.  One night I slept next to my dad in a recliner next to his hospital bed which was in my parent’s living room.  The next morning a supernatural event took place in my dad’s life.  It was astounding to be there when it happened.  After that supernatural occurrence my dad lived another year and a half.  At one point he had walked into his doctor’s office and the doctor was astounded and said, “What are you doing here?  You should be dead.”

So, whether it is King Hezekiah, my dad or anyone else, our Lord is more than capable to add years to their lives even when doctors say they don’t have much time left.  So, ultimately, let us be thankful for the ability God has given to doctors, but let us put our full trust in our Great Physician, our Lord Jesus.

Yes, Dear Father, we are grateful to the knowledge and ability You have revealed to the medical field.  But our life is in our hands.  You know the length of our days and we will trust You with them.  I am so grateful to know that however long or short my time on earth may be, I am safe and secure in Your hands.  Now may I live out the rest of my days in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son to honor You.  May it be so!
