KEEP HIS WORD AND PRESS ON!

KEEP HIS WORD AND PRESS ON!

And when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself in a book a copy of this law, approved by the Levitical priests. And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the LORD his God by keeping all the words of this law and these statutes, and doing them, that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, either to the right hand or to the left, so that he may continue long in his kingdom, he and his children, in Israel. —Deuteronomy 17:18

Imagine today if our governmental leadership wrote out a copy, word for word, of the Bible that it was an approved copy and not some perverted copy and that they were to read it every day!  That is what the kings of Israel were to do.  God’s Word was to be their guidance in decision making.  God’s Word was to be their guidance in how to treat people.  God’s Word was to keep them humble, not prideful.  God’s Word was to reveal to them that they were no better than any other.  Oh, that we would have leaders today that were willingly to read God’s Word daily, seeking Him for guidance in thought, word and action.

Let’s think about when a governmental leader, or anyone really, does not have a copy of God’s Word to read daily.  What is their life going to be like?  What can it be like?  Without the light of God’s Word people are going to walk in darkness.  Instead of receiving their guidance from what God says they are going to put their trust in some other “source.”  They will do, like in the book of Judges (17:6; 21:25), when “Everyone did what was right in their own eyes.”

Take a look at our United States.  Without the Word of God it is a mess and could we really expect anything different when God’s Word is not seen as the standard to go by?  Look at the mess the world is and could we really expect anything different when God’s Word is not seen as the standard to go by?  When God’s Word is not followed then—

  • Leaders will not have a fear of the Lord or learn to fear the Lord
  • Leaders will be prideful
  • Leaders will think they are better than anyone else
  • Leaders will have a negative effect on their family

Of course, it is not just government leaders who follow not God’s Word that will be like this, it is anyone who will not follow God’s Word.  They also will have these attitudes and actions.  How can a person in the dark live as though they are in the light?  It is impossible!  How can a goat be a sheep? (Matthew 25:31-46).  It is impossible!

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” —Matthew 7:24-27

What kind of foundation for life are you building on?  Rock or sand?  Living by God’s Word or not living by God’s Word?  Wise or foolish?  Dear Father may I hear Your Word and be faithfully applying Your Word to my life.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.  Yes, may I hear and practice what You say for Your Honor and glory and surely it will be for my benefit and for the benefit of others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ4lAVu9VwU&list=RDtZ4lAVu9VwU&start_radio=1  Yes, keep His Word and keep pressing on, being wise and not foolish!
