THE COMING JUDGMENT UPON THIS WORLD

And a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up. —Revelation 8:7

…a third of the sea became blood.  A third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. —Revelation 8:8-9

…a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many people died from the water, because it had been made bitter. —Revelation 8:10-11

…a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light might be darkened, and a third of the day might be kept from shining, and likewise a third of the night. —Revelation 8:12

“Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!” —Revelation 8:13

            At some point in the future angels will be directed by God to announce judgment that is about to happen to this earth.  There is going to be great destruction.  One-third of the earth is going to be burned up— one-third of trees will be burned up and all green grass will be burned up.  We saw previously that one-fourth of the world’s population would die.  Imagine if this were taking place today that would mean about two billion people that would die!  Two billion people!

            We are also told that one-third of the oceans’ waters would become “blood.”  This will impact sea life as one-third of all sea creatures would die.  Think of the world disruption at one-third of all ships also being destroyed.  These judgments on this world will be ordered by our Lord.  Reality of Who really is in control and the consequences for sinning against a Holy, Righteous God will come upon this earth.

            The rivers and springs, drinking water, will also be affected.  One-third of the water needed to survive will be undrinkable.  Many people that do drink it will die from its bitterness.  Think about the devastation of that time when so much available drinking water is no longer available to drink!

            There is also going to be judgment in the universe as well.  This will affect the sun, the moon and a third of the stars.  The light from them will be affected for a third part of the day and a third part of the night.  One third of the time their light will not be available.  Think of how that loss of light will affect life!

            But these are not the end of the judgments.  There is more to come and an angel said, “Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth, at the blasts of the other trumpets that the three angels are about to blow!” 

“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. —II Peter 3:8-12
