ASK! WITH RIGHT MOTIVES

ASK! WITH RIGHT MOTIVES

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. —Ephesians 3:20-21

I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. —Psalm 9:1

We cannot out ask or out think God. He can “do far more abundantly than all that we ask” and He can “do far more abundantly than all that we think.” The problem typically is “You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures” (James 4:2-3).

So when we pray, when we talk to God and ask Him for something let us make sure that:

  • First— we take the time and ask God specifically about the need
  • Second— when we ask we ask with right motives
  • Third— when we ask we ask not for our own selfish pleasures

Also, let us reflect on the wonderful things that our Lord has already done. Let us be grateful to Him and thank Him for all that He has already done, not only in our lives but also in the lives of others. So yes, take time to consider the oh so much that He has already done. Then be confident that when we ask Him to meet our needs and the needs of others, having the right motives, He will answer beyond what we can imagine. But… ask!

Dear Father when I come to You with needs may I ask with the right motives and not for selfish pleasure.   May I also consider the wonderful things You have done already and give You thanks. May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus. So be it!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfiYWaeAcRw
