Lord, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them?  They are like a breath; their days are like a fleeting shadow. —Psalm 144:4

How true this is!  Our lives are like a single breath— breathe in and exhale.  That is our life— not long lasting at all in this temporary tent we live in (II Corinthians 5:4).  How often I am reminded of this when I talk to young people about Jesus.  I mention how not long ago I was their age and it is hard to believe I am already in my 60’s. As I once was where they are in age so they will be where I am in age and it doesn’t take that long.  Yes, our life is like a single breath.

Our life is also like a fleeting shadow.  This is another huge reminder and is especially seen at this time of the year here in the Northeast United States.  The shadows come so soon in the late afternoon and they quickly flee away as the sun quickly sinks below the horizon.  Then the shadows are gone.  Wow, our lives are like that as well.  Like shadows here so briefly and then meld into the darkness.  So are our lives— soon to be seen no more.

Even though this is true the wonderful news is that our Lord cares for us and has given us great consideration.  He has provided the way for eternal life (Romans 6:23: John 10:28) through the cross (I John 2:2) for whoever calls on His Name (Roman 10:13) and proved this all true by His resurrection (Romans 1:4).  Our life may be short here but eternity with Jesus is ahead for all who call on His Name!  Rejoice! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIpnW3rtRQ4

Dear Father I thank You for the eternal life You have given me through Jesus.  I so look forward to being in glory with Him and all who love Him.  Thank You for caring for us, thinking of us even as our lives are so small.  Out of gratitude may I faithfully serve You with the time I have left.  May this be so by the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Your Son Jesus.
