HE TEACHES THROUGH AFFLICTION—- LEARN!
Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word. You are good and do good; teach me your statutes. The insolent smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep your precepts; their heart is unfeeling like fat, but I delight in your law. It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes… I know, O LORD, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me. —Psalm 119:67-71, 75
When those who follow our Lord stray our Lord may afflict them as an encouragement to draw them back to keep His Word and do what is right. Our Lord God Almighty is always good and always does what is good. It is in affliction that we should seek to be leaning what He desires us to know and be faithful to His desires. The Psalmist sees affliction as good to the extent that we learn through it. When we go through affliction may we seek to understand what our Lord is teaching us. He is always righteous and it is because of His faithfulness that He afflicts us. He does not just let us go our own way. In His loving faithfulness He seeks to teach us to be on the right way, the best way, and His way— He uses affliction to get out attention.
Are you going through any type of affliction? He is seeking to use it to teach you. Have you strayed from His will? Then He is seeking to have you learn and get back on His track and not your own. He is being good to you in your affliction. He is working to direct you because you would not listen to Him before the affliction. Will you listen to Him now?
