IN GOOD HANDS!
Yours is the day, yours also the night; you have established the heavenly lights and the sun. You have fixed all the boundaries of the earth; you have made summer and winter. —Psalm 74:16-17
A new day is upon us. It is the Lord ’s day. He created it, He owns it. So it is with the night. It is He who has established and placed each stellar body where it is. He determined where our sun would be. He also named the stars— “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name” (Psalm 147:4). He is a boundary setter “of the earth,” of the nations and even determines the length of their existence (Acts 17:26). Why do we have summer and winter? It is because He also determined that to be so!— “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease” (Genesis 8:22)
I take great comfort in knowing Who it is that is ultimately in control. There are those who will scream climate change (used to be global cooling, then global warming) to create a supposed crisis to manipulate people. I am not worried about climate change because it will not change when our Creator is in control. Our Creator is the climate controller of this planet. Climate will drastically be changed in the final days of this planet, but it will be His judgment on this planet (Revelation 8:7).
Man cannot unfix what God has fixed. Man is very limited, but in his ignorance and arrogance he pridefully believes he can take God’s place. Man thinks he can determine his own destiny. This is a fallacy that is common to men in all ages— “By the strength of my hand I have done this, and by my wisdom, because I have understanding” (Isaiah 10:13).
Stand under the stars and then consider how limited man is. Look at our Sun, so puny compared to other suns in the universe and yet its power could fry or freeze earth if we were not set in its proper place by our Lord. Who is in control? He would just have to move this earth a bit closer or further from our sun and we would be instantly dead… the whole planet. But the Lord God Almighty places the earth where it is because “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters” (Psalm 24:1-2). “For this is what the LORD says– he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited– he says: “I am the LORD, and there is no other” (Isaiah 45:18).
So let us go into this new day with confidence, knowing Who it is that ultimately is in control. He holds the universe in place. Nothing is beyond His power and knowledge. Dear Father I am so comforted, so encouraged and so thankful to know that You are ultimately in control and I need not fear anything… not even death. May I live in this freedom You have given me for Your glory and the benefit of others. May this be so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus.
