EVIL IS TO NOT SET OUR HEART TO SEEK THE LORD

EVIL IS TO NOT SET OUR HEART TO SEEK THE LORD

And he did evil, for he did not set his heart to seek the LORD. —II Chronicles 12:14

We are told in the verse above that Rehoboam did evil. How is it that he did evil? It was because “he did not set his heart to seek the LORD.” When we do not set our hearts to seek the Lord we are doing evil. Here’s why— “You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:3). If the Lord is not first in or hearts, first in our devotion, our first love or top priority in our lives… then what or who is? The answer to that will show what or who is the idol is in our lives. To hold anything or anybody in a higher place in our heart than the Lord is evil. It is disobedience.

Are you and I truly seeking our Lord?   Or, is there something or someone we are seeking instead of Him? Oh let us “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33).   Or as the song says… “I have decided to follow Jesus, not turning back, not turning back.” Let us have that commitment to Him without looking back.   Instead “press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2). We will keep our eyes on what we love. So, what are your eyes fixed on? Are your eyes fixed Jesus or somebody or something else? The answer to that question will determine if you are doing evil or not. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8Sx_U0Ztr8

Dear Father may I keep my eyes fixed on Jesus whom I love. May He be my first love as I run this race marked out for me. May I do so in the power of Your Holy Spirit and in the authority of Jesus. So be it!
